Collection After Bankruptcy

Reporting In Collection After Bankruptcy Letter: Use this letter to dispute a Credit Bureau report of an account being in Collection after your bankruptcy has been discharged. Be sure that you attach a copy of the discharge papers and the list of creditors.

Similar to reporting money due after bankruptcy, a collection needs to be handled with the same process. Collection agencies won’t update the account when discharged for the same reason as accounts with money due. These accounts are typically unsecured credit. Unsecured accounts will likely need more attention than secured. Use time wisely when correcting errors.

RE: [Company Name] Is Showing Account In Collection

This letter is to inform you that I am disputing the fact that the above [Company name] is reporting that [I/WE] are in collection. This account has been satisfied through [my/our] bankruptcy. Attached you will find a copy of the creditors listed in the bankruptcy, and as you can see, [Company name] is included. Also attached is a copy of the discharge papers. Therefore this account should not be reported as currently being in collection, since this debt was discharged and is settled.

Please correct this error as soon as possible. Please send me notification when it has been corrected since it is negatively affecting my credit.

Thank you for your help,
Sincerely,
